Tempus Carus*

My face is a jumble of uneven bones

.            laughing at the sunset

Your beard scratches

.            one thousand blonde warriors

.            with spears pointed straight up

.            prickling toward the battlefield

.            valiant viking!

My face bends to one side in supplication

.            nestling in your shoulder

Your beard assents

.            one thousand kisses instead

.            with years together stretched out

.            I will take them all right now

.            heroic husband!

I don’t trust Time to pay the tab

.            suddenly, a lifetime is short.
